BEING THANKFUL
We have all heard about Leonardo da Vinci and his works of art. All of his art pieces have been mesmerising art lovers all over the world for decades. However, there has been one standout work of art of Da Vinci that has been admired and discussed the world over, The Mona Lisa. The Mona Lisa is a Da Vinci painting that has not been properly valued yet. This painting is kept in the Louvre museum in Paris. The Mona Lisa is protected way more than even the president of the United States is protected and it is guarded with state of the art technology due to its priceless characteristic. Regardless of all the high security, this splendid art piece was stolen in the year 1911 and was recovered and restored only two years later.
In the two years that the painting was lost, tourists around the world still visited this museum by paying tickets even with the knowledge that the mona Lisa was stolen. Some even visited the museum just to make sure that that portrait was not there. They came and said to each other,
“Wow, it is not here!!!”.
The sad part was, these people did not think about the portrait when it was hanging there.
Now, you might have thought in your mind how crazy and foolish these people were, just travelling all the way and paying for the ticket to see an EMPTY WALL??
And right now you are thinking that, if it was you, you would not have done that. But the truth is, we are not much different from those tourists who had visited that empty wall. In our daily life in most instances, we wear the same shoe those tourists wore.
God has blessed us all with blessings that most people cannot even imagine having, but we forget to thank Him for that. Rather than what we have, we always like to look towards the empty wall of our lives, like those tourists.
Be content with what you have.
I know it is hard to practise it in our life, but it is not impossible to apply in life.
Now, take a moment and ask yourself, when was the last time you thanked God with all your heart for everything that you have now.Just remember that you will not be fully happy in your life till you learn to be content or satisfied with the things you have. So learn to appreciate the things that you have now in your life because you do not know what tomorrow holds.
Stop chasing after the world too much. You might think that you will be happy when you get certain things in your life. But unless you are satisfied with what you have, you will end up chasing the wind.
Before I conclude I would like my readers to read the following story –
A long time ago, there was an Emperor who told his horseman that if he could ride on his horse and cover as much land area as he likes, then the Emperor would give him the area of land he has covered.
Sure enough, the horseman quickly jumped onto his horse and rode as fast as possible to cover as much land area as he could. He kept on riding and riding, whipping the horse to go as fast as possible. When he was hungry or tired, he did not stop because he wanted to cover as much area as possible.
Came to a point when he had covered a substantial area and he was exhausted and was dying. Then he asked himself, "Why did I push myself so hard to cover so much land area? Now I am dying and I only
need a very small area to bury me."
The above story is similar with the journey of our Life. We push very hard every day to make more money, to gain power and recognition. We neglect our health and fail to spend time with our family or appreciate the surrounding beauty or follow our passions sincerely.
So one day when we look back, we will realise that we don't really need that much, but then we cannot turn back time for what we have missed.
